Road Trip Begins
This Road Trip is the gateway to mid-Maryland's historic,
scenic, and natural recreation opportunities along the Catoctin
Mountains. The Road Trip offers scenic views of farmsteads,
orchards, and mountains; gateways into historic, revitalized
downtowns; historic sites from early industrial history to the
Civil War; and parks for hiking, camping, picnicking, and
exploring.
Visitor Services
Camping: Campsites are available along the Road
Trip, including inside many of the state and national parks.
- Food: You'll find plenty of places to eat along the
Road Trip, including the Cozy Inn, where several American
presidents and celebrities have stopped in for pie.
- Gasoline: Gasoline is available in towns all along
the Road Trip, including Emmitsburg, Thurmont, Frederick,
and Point of Rocks.
- Information: From the north there is a Maryland
Welcome Center at Pennsylvania/Maryland state line. The
Tourism Council of Frederick County operates a visitor
center in downtown Frederick that is signed from all major
entrances.
- Lodging: Stay at hotels and motels in the towns
along the way, or stay at a distinctly New England bed and
breakfast.

- Restrooms: Restrooms are available in towns along
the Road Trip and gas stations between towns.
- Retail: Stop into one of the towns along the Road
Trip for a unique shopping experience in an extensive
historical district.
