Hawaiian Tri Tip Steak with
Sweet Onions
Makes 4 to 6 servings
Prep time: 10 min.
Marinate time: 30 to 45 min.
Cooking time: 10 to 15 min.
Ingredients:
- Hawaiian Pepper Rub:
- 1/2 - Tablespoon sea salt
- 1 - Tablespoon cracked black peppercorns
- 1 - Tablespoon garlic, minced
- 1 - Tablespoon ginger, grated
- 1 - Tablespoon soy sauce
- white pepper

1 - Tablespoon brown sugar
- 2-1/2 - pounds tri tip steaks
- Sweet Onions:
- 1 - medium Maui or Sweet onion
- 1 - medium tomato
- 3/4 - cup teriyaki sauce
- white pepper
- pepper flakes
Directions
- In a small mixing bowl, you need to add the
sea salt, peppercorns, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, white pepper,
and brown sugar.
- Rub onto steaks.
- Place in a zip lockable plastic bag, add
marinate meat for 30 to 45 minutes.
Preheat grill to medium – high heat.
- In a large skillet, add the Maui or sweet
onion, tomato, teriyaki sauce, white pepper and pepper
flakes.
- Pan fry for 5 minutes or until done.
- Place steaks on grill and turn every 4
minutes.
- Total cooking time is 10 to 15 minutes,
depending on thickness of steaks.
- Garnish with Sweet Onions.
Do-Ahead Tip Make these packets up to 24 hours
in advance and refrigerate. Pop them on the grill when you are ready to eat.
