Easy Wheaties® Breakfast Bars

Prep Time: 10 Min.
Cooling Time: 1 Hr.

Ingredients:

  • 10 - cups Wheaties® cereal
  • 3/4 - cup sugar
  • 3/4 - cup corn syrup
  • 1/4 - cup butter or margarine
  • 1 - cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/4 - cup honey
  • 1 - cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 - cup butterscotch chips

Directions:

  1. Butter 13x9-inch pan. Into large bowl, measure cereal. Set aside.
  2. In medium microwavable bowl, microwave sugar, corn syrup and butter uncovered on High about 2 minutes, stirring after 1 minute, until melted and smooth. 
  3. Stir in peanut butter and honey until smooth. 
  4. Pour over cereal in bowl, stirring until evenly coated. Press in pan.
  5. In small microwavable bowl, microwave chips uncovered on High about 2 minutes, stirring after 1 minute, until melted and smooth. 
  6. Spread on top and cool until firm. 
  7. For bars, cut into 9 rows by 4 rows. Store loosely covered.

Stove-Top Directions: Butter 13x9-inch pan. Into large bowl, measure cereal; set aside. In 3-quart saucepan, heat sugar, corn syrup and butter over low heat, stirring frequently, until melted. Stir in peanut butter and honey until smooth. Pour over cereal in bowl, stirring until evenly coated. Press in pan. In 1-quart saucepan, heat chips over low heat until melted. Spread on top; cool until firm. For bars, cut into 9 rows by 4 rows. Store loosely covered.

Alan’s Kitchen Tip: Use a piece of waxed paper sprayed with cooking spray to easily press the mixture into the pan.
