Good Morning America Cinnamon Rolls

Ingredients:

  • Dough Ingredients:
    • 4 1/2 to 5 1/2  cups all-purpose flour
    •    1/2  cup sugar
    •       1  package (1/4-ounce) active dry yeast
    •       1  teaspoon salt
    •    3/4  cup butter
    •    3/4  cup milk
    •    3/4  cup water
    •       1  egg
  • Filling Ingredients:
  • Glaze Ingredients:
    •       1  Tablespoon butter, melted
    •       1  Tablespoon honey

Directions:

1) In a large bowl, combine 2 1/2 cups flour, 1/2 cup sugar, yeast and salt.

2) In a 1-quart saucepan, place 3/4 cup butter, milk and water.

3) Cook over medium heat until very warm (120-degrees F to 130-degrees F).

4) Add milk mixture and egg to flour mixture. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, for 2 to 3 minutes or until smooth.

5) Stir in enough remaining flour to make dough easy to handle.

6) Turn dough onto lightly floured surface. Knead until smooth and elastic for about 5 minutes.

7) Place in greased bowl and turn, greased-side up.

8) Cover and let rise in warm place for 1 to 1 1/2 hours or until double in size. (Dough is ready if indentation remains when touched.)

9) Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon.

10) Punch down dough. Roll dough to 16x14-inch rectangle on lightly floured surface.

11) Spread dough with 1/4 cup softened butter to within 1/2 inch of edges.

12) Sprinkle with sugar-cinnamon mixture. Roll up, jelly-roll fashion, beginning with 16-inch side; seal seam well.

13) Cut into 16 (1-inch) rolls with serrated knife.

14) Place rolls in 2 greased 9-inch baking pans.

15) Cover and let rise about 30 minutes.

Preheat oven to 375 F. 

1) Bake for 25 to 35 minutes or until golden brown.

2) Remove from pan. Cool completely.

3) In a small bowl, combine 1 tablespoon butter and honey in small bowl. Mix well.

4) Brush glaze on rolls.

Alan's Kitchen Tip:
Rolls can be baked in 13x9-inch baking pan instead of 2 (9-inch) round baking pans.  Bake for 30 to 40 minutes.
