Appetizer & Snack Recipes from AlansKitchen.comChocolate-Butterscotch Banana Bites
Makes about 1-1/2 dozen snacks

Ingredients:

  • 4 - medium-size bananas
  • Plastic straws, cut into 2-inch pieces, or lollipop sticks
  • 1 - cup Hershey’s® Butterscotch Chips, divided
  • 1 - cup Hershey’s® Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips or Hershey’s® Mini Chips Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips, divided
  • 4 - teaspoons shortening (do not use butter, margarine, spread or oil), divided

Directions:

Cover tray with wax paper. Peel bananas and cut diagonally into 1-inch pieces. Place straw piece halfway into each banana piece. Place on prepared tray; cover and freeze until firm.

  1. Coarsely chop 1/2 cup butterscotch chips and set aside in small bowl.
  2. Coarsely chop 1/2 cup chocolate chips and set aside in separate small bowl.
  3. Place remaining 1/2 cup butterscotch chips and 2 teaspoons shortening in small microwave-safe bowl.
  4. Microwave at HIGH (100%) 1 minute and stir.
  5. Continue heating 15 seconds at a time or until mixture is melted and smooth when stirred.
  6. Dip half of banana pieces into butterscotch mixture, covering each banana piece completely; roll in chopped chocolate chips.
  7. Place back on prepared tray. Cover and return to freezer until set.
  8. Repeat melting procedure with remaining 1/2 cup chocolate chips and remaining 2 teaspoons shortening.
  9. Coat remaining banana pieces and roll in chopped butterscotch chips.
  10. Cover and return to freezer.
