Hickory or Walnut Cake

Makes 12 servingsCountry Home Cooking Recipes

Prep Time: 15 min.
Baking Time: 1 hr. and 40 min.

Ingredients:

  • 2 - cups sugar

  • 1/2 - cup butter

  • 3/4 - cup milk

  • 3 - cups sifted flour

  • 2 - teaspoons baking powder

  • 1 - level tablespoon mace

  • 1 - cup hickory nut or walnut meats (chopped)

  • 1 - cup raisins.

Directions:

Preheat oven to 300 F and line pans with buttered paper.

  1. In a large mixing bowl, cream sugar and butter and add milk. Add flour, baking powder, and mace.

  2. Fill the cake pans with a layer of cake batter, a layer of raisins, then a layer of nuts until all batter is used.

  3. Bake about 1 hour and 40 minutes. (The cake is very delicious and keeps well.)
