Old Fashioned Fudge Cake

Makes 14 servingsCountry Home Cooking Recipes

Prep Time: 20 min.
Baking Time: 25-30 min.

Ingredients:

Fudge

  • 1 - cup sugar

  • 3/4 - cup cocoa

  • 1 - egg

  • 1 - cup milk.

Cake

  • 3/4 - cup shortening

  • 1 - cup sugar

  • 2 - eggs, beaten

  • 2 - cups cake flour

  • 1 - teaspoon baking soda

  • 1/8 - teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 - cup milk

  • 1 - teaspoon vanilla.

Direction:

Preheat oven to 350 F and line two 9-inch cake pans with waxed paper.

  1. Combine sugar and cocoa.  Add well beaten egg and milk.  Cook in double boiler until thick and smooth. Cool.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream shortening and sugar.  Add well beaten eggs and beat thoroughly.  Sift flour and measure, then sift with baking soda and salt.  Add alternately with milk to creamed mixture; add flavoring and cool cocoa mixture. Mix only until blended.

  3. Pour into pans and bake in moderate oven for 25-30 minutes.
