One Hour Kolache

Cowboy Cooking Recipes from AlansKitchen.comMakes 3 dozen
Prep Time: 30 min
Baking Time: 15 to 20 min

Ingredients:

  • 2 - packages active dry yeast
  • 1/4 - cup warm water
  • 1/4 - cup sugar
  • 1/4 - cup cream, scalded
  • 3/4 - pound butter
  • 3 1/2 - cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 - teaspoon salt
  • 4 - egg yolks, slightly beaten
  • Jams or fruit, your choice

Directions:

  1. Dissolve yeast in water.
  2. Dissolve sugar in cream and cool to lukewarm.
  3. Cut butter into flour and salt as for pie crust.
  4. Add yeast mixture and egg yolks, stirring and beating to form smooth, soft dough.
  5. Cover tightly and let rise in w warm place for 1 hour.
  6. Turn out on lightly floured board and roll 1/4-inch thick.
  7. Cut out with a round biscuit cutter, about 2 1/4-inches, and place on cookie sheet.
  8. Make wide deep indentation in center and fill with any jam you like, or with prepared apricot, prunes, poppy seed, or almond filling.

Preheat oven to 400° F.

  1. Let rise 15 minutes and bake for 15 to 20 minutes.
