One Hour Kolache
Makes
3 dozen
Prep Time: 30 min
Baking Time: 15 to 20 min
Ingredients:
- 2 - packages active dry yeast
- 1/4 - cup warm water
- 1/4 - cup sugar
- 1/4 - cup cream, scalded
- 3/4 - pound butter
- 3 1/2 - cups all purpose flour
- 1/2 - teaspoon salt
- 4 - egg yolks, slightly beaten
- Jams or fruit, your choice
Directions:
- Dissolve yeast in water.
- Dissolve sugar in cream and cool to lukewarm.
- Cut butter into flour and salt as for pie crust.
- Add yeast mixture and egg yolks, stirring and
beating to form smooth, soft dough.
- Cover tightly and let rise in w warm place for 1
hour.
- Turn out on lightly floured board and roll
1/4-inch thick.
- Cut out with a round biscuit cutter, about 2
1/4-inches, and place on cookie sheet.
- Make wide deep indentation in center and fill
with any jam you like, or with prepared apricot, prunes, poppy seed,
or almond filling.
Preheat oven to 400° F.
- Let rise 15 minutes and bake for 15 to 20
minutes.
