Prairie Buttermilk Biscuits

Cowboy Cooking Recipes from AlansKitchen.comIngredients:

  • 4 - cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 - teaspoons salt
  • 1 - teaspoon baking soda
  • 6 - Tablespoons shortening
  • 2 - cups buttermilk

Directions:

Preheat oven to 425 F.  Grease cookie sheet

  1. In a mixing bowl, sift in the flour, salt and baking powder.  Next, cut in the shortening.  Add the buttermilk.

  2. Stir into a relatively stiff dough.  Kneed slightly.  On a floured board, roll the dough to a 1/2-inch thickness.

  3. Cut into biscuits.  Place biscuits on cookie sheet.  Bake for 10 to 12 minutes.
