Sourdough Starter

Ingredients

1 - package active dry yeast
1 - Tablespoon sugar
1-1/2 - cups lukewarm water (110° F)
1-1/4 - cups all-purpose flour

Directions

  • In a glass-mixing bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in water. 
  • Using a wooden spoon, stir in the flour.
  • Loosely cover glass bowl with plastic wrap and let stand overnight. 
  • The starter should be bubbly and smell yeasty.

To keep starter going

  • Pour mixture into a glass container, cover loosely, and refrigerate.
  • Replace when used with 1 cup of lukewarm water and 1 cup of flour. 
  • If not used often, take out 1 cup of mixture and refill with flour and water.
