Beer
Beer is any variety of
alcoholic drink produced by the brewing process: fermentation of
starchy material derived from grains or other plant sources,
such as malted barley or wheat. Beer typically has an alcoholic
strength of from 3 to 8 percent.
Beer
is an alcoholic beverage that can be used as a leavening agent.
It is commonly used in the batter for deep-fat fried foods, and
sometimes used in baked goods. Beer also adds flavor and
moisture.
For uncooked usage of beer, see
the numerous warnings on the alcohol
warning page.
