Yakima Applesauce Cake

Ingredients

• 1 - cup applesauce
• 1 - cup brown sugar, firmly packed
• 1/2 - cup butter, melted
• 1-3/4 - cups flour
• 1 - teaspoon baking soda
• 1/2 - teaspoon salt
• 1 - teaspoon cinnamon
• 1/2 - teaspoon powdered cloves
• 1 - cup raisins
• 1 - cup chopped nuts
• 1 - bowl of whipped cream

Preheat oven to 350-degrees F.

1. In a mixing bowl, mix applesauce, sugar, and butter.  Set aside.
2. In a large bowl, sift in the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and cloves.  
3. Add the raisins and nuts.  
4. Now, add the applesauce mixture.
5. Pour the batter into a buttered and floured 9-inch square baking pan and bake 40 minutes.  
6. Check by inserting a knife, you want it to come out clean.
7. It is ideal served hot or cold.  Top with whipped cream.
