Mildred's Whole Wheat Bread

Makes 4 loavesPennsylvania Dutch Cooking from AlansKitchen.com

Prep Time: 30 min
Rising Time: 1 hr + 1 hr

Ingredients:

  • 2      packages dry yeast
  • 4      cups warm water
  • 1/2   cup soft margarine or butter
  • 1/4   cup molasses
  • 1/2   cup honey
  • 2      teaspoons salt
  • 6      cups whole wheat flour
  • 4      cups white flour

Directions.

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water.  In a large bowl, combine margarine, molasses, honey , and salt. Mix well.  Gradually add flour.  Turn onto floured surface and knead until smooth.  Place in greased bowl and let rise until double.  Punch down. Let dough rest a few minutes.

  2. Divide dough and shape into 4 loaves.  Place in greased bread pans.  Let rise about 1 hour.

Preheat oven to 375 F.

  1. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes.
