Mildred's Whole Wheat Bread

Pennsylvania Dutch Cooking from AlansKitchen.comMakes 4 loaves

Prep Time: 30 min
Rising Time: 1 hr + 1 hr

Ingredients:

  • 2      packages dry yeast
  • 4      cups warm water
  • 1/2   cup soft margarine or butter
  • 1/4   cup molasses
  • 1/2   cup honey
  • 2      teaspoons salt
  • 6      cups whole wheat flour
  • 4      cups white flour

Directions.

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water.
  2. In a large bowl, combine margarine, molasses, honey , and salt. Mix well.
  3. Gradually add flour.
  4. Turn onto floured surface and knead until smooth.
  5. Place in greased bowl and let rise until double.
  6. Punch down. Let dough rest a few minutes.
  7. Divide dough and shape into 4 loaves.
  8. Place in greased bread pans.
  9. Let rise about 1 hour.

Preheat oven to 375° F.

  1. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes.
