Drechterkuche (Funnel Cakes)

Pennsylvania Dutch Cooking from AlansKitchen.comIngredients

  • 4 - cups milk
  • 4 - eggs
  • 1/2 - teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 - cup water, lukewarm
  • 2 - Tablespoons sugar
  • 4 - cups all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 1/4 - teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 - cup powdered sugar

Directions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, mix the milk, eggs, baking soda dissolved in water, sugar, flour, and salt. 
  2. Pour mixture into a funnel. 
  3. In a deep fryer, pour in high quality fat with a �high smoke point� and temperature at 360� F. 
  4. Squeeze batter through funnel, allow batter to twist and turn, and quickly deep-fry. 
  5. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve.
