Pennsylvania Dutch Cooking from AlansKitchen.comMakes 25 biscuits

Ingredients:

  • 2 - cups all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 3 - teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 - teaspoon salt
  • 2 - Tablespoons shortening
  • 3/4 - cup milk

Directions:

Preheat oven to 450° F. and grease baking sheet.

  1. In a mixing bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt – 3 or 4 times. 
  2. Work in the shortening with the fingertips. 
  3. Gradually add the milk. 
  4. Dough should be a soft paste. 
  5. On a floured board, lightly roll out to 3/4-inch thickness. 
  6. Cut dough with a biscuit cutter or a drinking glass. 
  7. Place on a greased baking sheet about a 1-inch apart. 
  8. Bake for 12 minutes.
