Biscuit II

Makes about 2 dozen biscuits. Pennsylvania Dutch Cooking from AlansKitchen.com

Ingredients:

  • 3 - cups all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 3 - Tablespoons baking powder
  • 1/2 - teaspoon salt
  • 2 - Tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1/2 - teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 - cup buttermilk

Directions:

Preheat oven to 450 F. and grease baking sheet.

  1. In a mixing bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt - 3 or 4 times.  Cut in the butter and thoroughly mix. 

  2. Dissolve the baking soda in the buttermilk and then stir into the flour mixture.  On a floured board, roll dough to 3/4-inch thickness, cut out with biscuit cutter or drinking glass, and place on baking sheet. 

  3. Bake 2 to 5 minutes.
