Crullers (Fried Cakes) II

Ingredients:Pennsylvania Dutch Cooking from AlansKitchen.com

Directions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, dissolve the baking soda in the buttermilk.  Then add the flour gradually, using enough to make a stiff paste, and eggs. 

  2. In another bowl, whip the sugar and butter into a cream and add to the flour mixture.  Beat well together and roll out on a floured board, cut into shapes.

  3. In a deep fryer, pour in high quality fat with a "high smoke point" and temperature at 360 F. Quickly deep-fry.
