Crullers (Fried Cakes) III

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, dissolve the baking soda in buttermilk.  Add the egg and egg yolk. 

  2. Then gradually add the sugar.  Add the flour and sift in the salt, cream of tarter and nutmeg or cinnamon.

  3. Roll out on a floured board to 1/4-inch thickness, cut into shapes.  In a deep fryer, pour in high quality fat with a "high smoke point" and temperature at 360 F.  Quickly deep-fry.
