Molasses Breakfast Cake

Pennsylvania Dutch Cooking from AlansKitchen.comMakes 1 cake

Ingredients:

  • 1 - cup buttermilk
  • 1 - teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 - cup molasses
  • 1 - cup light brown sugar
  • 2 - cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 - Tablespoons shortening, melted

Directions:

Preheat oven to 425 F.  Grease 8-inch cake pan.

  1. Place buttermilk in a bowl and add baking soda.  Stir and add the molasses and brown sugar. 

  2. Sift in the flour, add shortening, and mix well.  Pour batter into the cake pan.  Bake for 25 to 30 minutes.
