Molasses Cake

  • 1 - cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 - Tablespoons shortening
  • 1 - cup water
  • 2 - cups molasses
  • 1 - Tablespoon baking soda
  • 1 - Tablespoon vinegar
  • 2-3/4 - cups flour

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 F. Grease & flour 9-inch loaf pans.

  1. Cream brown sugar and shortening.  Stir in water, molasses, and soda dissolved in vinegar. 

  2. Sift flour over the bowl.  Mix, adding more flour if batter seems too soft. 

  3. Pour cake batter into pan.  Bake for about 45 minutes.
