Pound Cake

IngredientsPennsylvania Dutch Cooking from AlansKitchen.com

  • 1 - pound butter
  • 1 - pound sugar
  • 1 - dozen eggs
  • 1 - teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 - teaspoon mace
  • 1 - pound cake flour
  • 1/2 - teaspoon cream tartar1/2 - teaspoon salt
  • 2 - Tablespoons brandy or 10 drops rosewater

Directions

Preheat oven to 325 F. Grease & flour 2 loaf pans.

  1. Cream butter and sugar until very light and smooth.  Add eggs, beating them in vigorously, one at a time. 

  2. Add vanilla and mace.  Sift flour 4 times, then resift with cream tartar and salt. 

  3. Sift into batter, a little at a time.  Mix thoroughly. 

  4. Add brandy or rosewater.  Pour batter into pans.

  5. Bake for about 60 minutes.
