Hazelnut Taffy

Ingredients:Pennsylvania Dutch Cooking from AlansKitchen.com

  • 1 - teaspoon vinegar

  • 1/8 - teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 - teaspoon cream tartar

  • 1/2 - cup water

  • 2 - Tablespoons butter

  • 1 - pound sugar

  • 2 - cups hazelnut meats

  • 1 - teaspoon vanilla

Directions:

  1. Mix vinegar, salt, cream tartar, and water in a bowl and blend thoroughly. 

  2. Melt butter; add sugar and the mixture in the bowl.  Stir over medium heat until candy boils. 

  3. Add nuts, beat until thick, and add vanilla.  Pour into buttered tins. Cool. Cut in squares.
