Butter Taffy

Ingredients:Pennsylvania Dutch Cooking from AlansKitchen.com

  • 1-1/2 - cups light brown sugar

  • 3 - Tablespoons molasses

  • 1-1/2 - Tablespoons vinegar

  • 1/4 - teaspoon salt

  • 1-1/2 - Tablespoons hot water

  • 3 - Tablespoons butter

  • 1 - teaspoon vanilla

Directions:

  1. Mix sugar, molasses, vinegar, salt, and hot water, put on stove and bring slowly to a boil.  Simmer until candy is brittle when tested in cold water. 

  2. Add butter, cook one minute longer.  Remove from stove, add vanilla. 

  3. Pour into buttered pans.  Cool and mark in squares.
