Black Walnut Taffy

Pennsylvania Dutch Cooking from AlansKitchen.comMakes 15 servings

Prep Time: 10 min.
Cooking Time: 10 min.
Cooling Time: 2 hrs. or more

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 - cup maple syrup

  • 1/4 - cup water

  • 1 - cup sugar

  • 1 - Tablespoon vinegar

  • 1 - heaping Tablespoon butter

  • 1 - cup black walnuts

Directions:

  1. In a medium pan, combine maple syrup, water, sugar, vinegar.  Cook over until mixture hardens when tested in cold water.

  2. Add butter and cook 1 minute longer.  Remove from stove and add black walnut meats.

  3. Pour into buttered 9-inch square pan until cool.  Break into pieces and serve.
