Molasses Taffy I

Ingredients:Pennsylvania Dutch Cooking from AlansKitchen.com

  • 4 - cups New Orleans molasses

  • 2 - Tablespoons sugar

  • 2 - Tablespoons vinegar

  • 1/2 - cup butter

  • 1/4 - teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 - teaspoon vanilla

Directions:

  1. Boil molasses, sugar, vinegar, and butter together.  Simmer until it hardens when dropped in cold water. 

  2. Remove from stove, stir in baking soda and cool. 

  3. When cool enough to handle, add vanilla, butter the fingers, and pull.  When pulled break into 1-inch pieces.
