Aunt Sue's Fig Cookies

Ingredients:Pennsylvania Dutch Cooking from AlansKitchen.com

  •    3 - teaspoons baking powder

  • 1/2 - teaspoon salt

  •    3 - cups flour

  • 1/2 - teaspoon nutmeg

  •    1 - cup sugar

  •    1 - cup butter

  •    1 -- cup lard

  • 1/4 - cup milk

  •    1 - cup figs, chopped

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 F. Grease cookie sheets.

  1. Sift baking powder, salt, flour, and nutmeg.  Cream sugar with butter and lard, add flour mixture and milk alternately.  Dredge chopped figs in a little flour, fold into the batter. 

  2. Roll out lightly on a floured board.  Cut in squares. 

  3. Place on cookie sheets.  Bake about 25 to 30 minutes.
