Dinah's Shaker Cookies

Pennsylvania Dutch Cooking from AlansKitchen.com Makes about 100 cookies

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 - teaspoon baking soda

  • 1/4 - cup warm water

  • 1 - cup shortening

  • 1 - cup brown sugar

  • 2 - eggs, well beaten

  • 2 - cups flour, sifted

  • 1/2 - teaspoon salt

  • 2 - cups rolled oats

  • 1 - cup raisins, chopped

  • 7/8 - cup milk

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375� F. Grease cookie sheets.

  1. Dissolve soda in a little water. 

  2. Cream shortening with sugar, beat in eggs, sift in flour and salt, add rolled oats and raisins. 

  3. Stir in soda and water. 

  4. This will seem to be a very stiff batter but can be dropped from teaspoon on cookie sheets.

  5. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until cookies are lightly browned.
