Pefferniss (Pepper Nuts)

Pennsylvania Dutch Cooking from AlansKitchen.comIngredients:

  • 1/4 - cup butter

  • 3 - cup brown sugar

  • 4 - eggs

  • 3 - cup flour, sifted

  • 1 - teaspoon baking powder

  • 2 - Tablespoon cinnamon

  • 1/4 - Tablespoon cloves

  • 1 - Tablespoon ground cardamom seed

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350� F. Grease cookie sheet.

Cream butter and sugar, add beaten eggs. Sift flour with baking powder and spices. The dough should be extremely stiff and either rolled out thinly and cut in tiny rounds the size of a coin or, with addition of 1/2 cup cream, thinned and shaped into small balls and placed on greased cookie sheet.

Bake for about 10 minutes or until light brown.
