Makes 4 servings

IngredientsPennsylvania Dutch Cooking from AlansKitchen.com

  • 1 - Tablespoon lard
  • 1 - Tablespoon butter
  • 1 - pound ground beef
  • 1 - beaten egg
  • 1 - green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 - onion, minced
  • 1 - Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 - teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 - teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 - teaspoon salt
  • Red bell pepper or pimiento

Directions

  1. In iron skillet, melt butter and lard. 

  2. In a mixing bowl, add beef, egg, bell pepper, onion, Worcestershire sauce and cayenne pepper.  Pour into frying pan, stirring and turning until fairly well cooked.

  3. Sprinkle the sugar over the top, cover, and simmer.  Season with salt. 

  4. Serve garnished with strips of red pepper or pimiento.
