Blackberry Pie

Makes 1 (8-inch) piePennsylvania Dutch Cooking from AlansKitchen.com

Prep Time: 20 min
Baking Time: 40 min

Ingredients:

  • Rich Pastry

  • Pie Filling

    • 3  cups blackberries

    • 1  cup sugar

    • 2  Tablespoons orange juice

    • 2  Tablespoons flour

    •     Pinch of nutmeg

    • 1  Tablespoon butter

Directions:

Preheat oven to 450 F.

  1. Line a pie dish with pastry and chill.  Cook berries over low heat with sugar, stirring, bring to a slow boil, simmer 3 minutes.   Cool. 

  2. Add orange juice.   Sprinkle a little flour over bottom of crust, pour in berries, sprinkle with flour and nutmeg, dot with butter.  Put on top crust, seal edges with a little milk, crimp. 

  3. Cut air holes in center of crust.  Bake for 10 minutes, lower heat to 350, and bake 30 minutes, or until crust is lightly browned. Serve with ice cream.
