Karschekuche (Cherry Tart)

Makes 1 (8-inch) tart. Pennsylvania Dutch Cooking from AlansKitchen.com

Ingredients

  • Sweet Dough
  • 2-1/2 - cups black cherries
  • 1 - Tablespoon flour
  • 2/3 - cup sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 - Tablespoon water

Directions

Preheat oven to 450 F.

  1. Use recipe for Sweet Dough Line a pie dish with bottom crust.

  2. In a mixing bowl, add cherries with flour, sugar, and salt.  Mix and pour into the pie, sprinkle water over the top, then sprinkle with more sugar. 

  3. Dot with a little butter.  Place strips of dough one way across the pie. 

  4. Bake for 10 minutes, lower heat to 350, and bake 30 minutes longer.
