Grumbera Supp
Pennsylvania Dutch Cooking from AlansKitchen.comMakes 8 servings

To the Pennsylvania Germans grumbera means potato, but literally it means pear

Ingredients

  • 4 - large potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1 - large yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 - cups water, boiling
  • 4 - cups milk
  • 1/2 - teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 - teaspoon pepper
  • 2 - Tablespoons butter
  • 2 - teaspoons parsley, chopped

Directions

  1. In a stockpot, add the potatoes, onion, to the water. 
  2. Heat at moderate heat and boil for 30 minutes or until the potatoes are tender. 
  3. Add the milk and stir constantly until soup reaches rapid boil. 
  4. Reduce heat to low and simmer 5 minutes. 
  5. Season with salt and pepper then add the butter. 
  6. Sprinkle parsley into the soup and serve.
