Asheville
Asheville can be said to be the
"home" of the Parkway since the park headquarters is
located here at Milepost 382. Asheville is also one of the more
scenic cities along the road, and is a favorite destination for
visitors who want a taste of town life while on their mountain
holiday.
Many accommodations, ranging from
bed-and-breakfast inns to luxury hotels are available in Asheville,
along with the Biltmore Estate.
The Parkway's Folk Art Center is
open year round and features craft sales, exhibits, and
demonstrations. Access to the Mountains-to-the-Sea trail is also
available.
Asheville is centrally located by
car since interstate highways 26, 40, and 240 bisect it as well as
U.S. highways 19/23, 25, 25A, 70, and 74. Americas well-known
Blue Ridge Parkway, a scenic overland highway, meanders through the
mountains with four exits that intersect Asheville. Depending on
your pleasure, you can arrive in Asheville with speed by car or air
or you can take the scenic approach, winding your way through nearby
hills and vales before arriving at the city.
The Asheville Area Chamber of
Commerce Visitor Center is conveniently located one block from I-240
and adjacent to downtown Asheville.
Asheville is 60 miles from
Greenville, S.C., 200 miles from Atlanta, Ga., 115 miles from
Charlotte and 240 miles from Raleigh.
