Explore Cheraw State Park
Cheraw State Park is
located in the northeast corner of South Carolina. This large park is
best known for its championship 18 hole golf course and the 300-acre
Lake Juniper, built by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Visitors can
rent kayaks, canoes, and non-motorized jon boats to explore the lake as
well as fish for the catfish, bass, and bream found in the lake. The
park also has several cabins available for rent with views of the lake.
There is no charge for admission to Cheraw State Park.
History
In 1934 the U.S. Government, as well local
citizens, donated 7,361 acres for the parks. In 1990 an additional 1.4
acres was purchased from A. Wannamaker. Many buildings still in use at
the park, as well as the 300-acre lake, were built by the Civilian
Conservation Corps.
Activities
FISHING
Fishing Information: Enjoy fishing in the park's
360-acre Lake Juniper for bass, bream and catfish. A valid South
Carolina fishing license is required.
BOATING
Boating and Boat Access: A boat ramp provide
access to Lake Juniper for private boat with no more than 10 horsepower.
THINGS TO DO
Picnic Area and Shelters: Two picnic shelters are
available for family or other group gatherings. Each shelter may be
reserved for $30-38/day. If the shelter is not reserved, guests may use
it on a first-come, first-served basis at no charge.
Note: Admission fee
is not included in shelter price. Rates listed do not include
applicable tax and nonrefundable transaction fee.
EQUESTRIAN FACILITIES
Equestrian Camping: The equestrian camping area is
located near Lake Juniper and includes central water.
To make a reservation for equestrian camping,
contact the park directly.
Equestrian Trail: The park's 15 miles of
equestrian trails connect to Sandhills State Forest equestrian trails.

GOLF
Overview: Golfers of all levels will enjoy this
picturesque championship layout. Cut through a pine forest along the
shores of Lake Juniper this challenging course was designed by Tom
Jackson. Facilities include an 18-hole championship golf course,
clubhouse, practice green, driving range a pro shop and snack grill.
TRAILS
Hiking Trails: Hiking trails include the Turkey
Oak Trail, a loop trail that is 4.5-miles in length and includes an
option for a short 1.9 mile loop. Along Lake Juniper is a half-mile
boardwalk trail that crosses the dam spillway.
