A small picnic area is located at the Bear Heaven Recreation Area along Stuart Memorial Drive near the Otter Creek Wilderness. Rock outcroppings offer unique landscapes.

Located approximately 14 miles northeast of Elkins, West Virginia, on Stuart Memorial Drive (Forest Road 91).

From Elkins, go east on State Highway 33 for approximately 11 miles, turn left on Forest Road 91 at the top of Shaver's Mountain. Follow Forest Road 91 for approximately 3 miles. Bear Heaven Picnic area will be on the left.

Open year round, however, Forest Road 91 is not plowed in the winter time and may be icy or snow-covered.

• There are 7 sites available. 

• Each site has a table and fire grill. 

• Vault toilets and a handpump for drinking water are available. 

• Waste receptacles are located in the parking area.

Hiking
Middle Point Trail, #140, which is 5.2 miles in length, is located along Stuart Memorial Drive west of the picnic/campground area. There are several trails in the Otter Creek Wilderness that offer more challenging experiences because the trail junctions are not signed and there are no bridges over stream crossing. Topo maps are recommended for wilderness adventures.

Fishing
Fishing is allowed along Otter Creek. A valid West Virginia State Fishing License is required, along with a National Forest stamp and a trout stamp. Please contact the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources for more information on fishing and hunting licensing requirements.

Camping
There are 8 single sites available at the Bear Heaven Campground.

Fees: There are no fees for use of the picnic area.

Reservable - No. Sites are on a first come, first served basis.

• Dogs are permitted if on a leash at all times.

• Limited to day-use only.
