This
scenic picnic spot is a perfect location to view the
beauty of Seneca Rocks. Picnic sites are located in
an open meadow.
Adjacent
to the North Fork of the South Branch River near the
base of Seneca Rocks on the North side of the
village of Seneca Rocks, WV.
Season: Open April
1st through November 30th.
Facilities: Each site
includes a table and grill. Picnic sites are
scattered along the bottom of the field. Double
sites are available. A large paved parking area that
can accommodate buses as well as personal vehicles
is available. The Seneca Rocks Discovery Center is
within walking distance. A flush bathroom is
centrally located close to the picnic area.
Scenic
View: Seneca
Rocks is one of the best-known landmarks in West
Virginia. These rocks have long been noted as a
scenic attraction and are popular with rock
climbers.
Hiking: A foot
trail leading to a point near the summit of Seneca
Rocks leaves the south parking lot. This trail has
gentle grades and is approximately 1.3 miles long.
The trail terminates near the north peak of Seneca
Rocks. For those that wish to leisurely hike the 700
foot elevation ascent several benches are located
along the trail.
Historic
Area: The
Sites Homestead is located within walking distance.
This structure was originally constructed in 1839
and contains a garden typical of those of other
1800's family farms.
Fishing: "Catch
and release" is the only type of fishing
allowed in this area. All fish must be returned to
the water and only artificial lures may be used.
Possession of bait is illegal. The area is patrolled
by West Virginia Conservation Officers. Special area
regulations may be found in the West Virginia
fishing regulations brochure is available at the
Seneca Rocks Discovery Center.
Fees: There are
no fees for use of the picnic area.
Are
you able to reserve a site? No. Sites are on a first
come, first served basis.
