State Park is close to the major population center
of the east coast. From Washington DC, take the
Beltway to I 270 North, Merge onto I 70 West toward
Hagerstown, Merge onto US - 522 South to Cacapon
State Park. Approximate distance: 105 miles.
From Interstate 81
(Winchester, VA) take U.S. Route 522 north 27 miles
to the park.
From the north on
Interstate 81 (Pennsylvania) take Interstate 70 west
to Hancock, MD then U.S. Route 522 south at Hancock,
towards Berkeley Springs. The park is located 9
miles south from the town of Berkeley Springs.
From the west on
Interstate 68 to Hancock, MD to 522 South towards
Berkeley Springs.
Cacapon Resort Park
received its name from being located in the shadows
of the wide expanse of Cacapon Mountain. This
mountain is the highest peak in the eastern
panhandle of West Virginia reaching an elevation of
2,300 feet. The Cacapon River parallels the mountain
in a meandering route beneath the mountains western
slope.
Cacapon (pronounced
CaCApon) is a derivative of a Shawnee Indian word
meaning "medicine waters". It refers to
the areas renowned medicinal waters, which have been
acclaimed throughout history for their healing
powers. These waters come to the surface
approximately ten miles from Cacapon at the nearby
Berkeley Springs State Park.
You want to check
out and stay at Cacapon's new additions. Among these
new expansions was a new conference facility capable
of seating up to 250 people and an elevator located
in the lodge. Other additions are two new fully
accessible guest cabins, upgraded and accessible day
use restrooms and facilities.
Picnic Shelters
Cacapon State Park
offers four reservable shelters. Three shelters, the
Boat Dock Shelter, CCC Shelter, and Gazebo are
located in the picnic area and one, the Batt Picnic
Shelter is further up the mountain. Each is an ideal
location for group functions, barbeques, reunions
and family gatherings.
