Greenbrier State Forest is
located in southeastern West Virginia, near
Lewisburg and White Sulphur Springs. From Interstate
64 east or west, you want to take Exit 175 (White
Sulphur Springs) and follow signs 1 1/2 miles to the
forest.
Located in the southeastern corner of the state
near the border of Virginia, Greenbrier State Forest
provides over 5,100 acres of heavily forested,
mountainous terrain for outdoor recreation.
Magnificent views of the surrounding countryside are
afforded by the impressive and imposing 3,280 high
Kate's Mountain.
Picnicking: Numerous picnic sites are offered
for forest guests. This area is furnished with
tables, fireplaces, drinking water, toilet
facilities and you can reserve two shelters.
Accessible shelter and picnic sites available.
Hiking/Biking: Thirteen miles of trails
crisscross the forest offering everything from
glimpses of rare Kate's Mountain flora to a fitness
trail near the picnic area. Several miles of forest
management roads provide additional hiking and
biking opportunities.
Swimming: During the summer season, from
Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, the forest's
heated pool provides an ideal spot to exercise or
just relax. A wading pool for children is also
available. Bathhouse and pool are fully accessible.
Cabins: Vacationers may select from among 12
standard, one and two bedroom cabins and one,
two-bedroom accessible cabin. Each cabin features
electric lighting, a wood-burning fireplace, fully
equipped kitchen with modern appliances, and bath
with shower. Cabins are equipped with linens,
towels, cookware, utensils, flatware, dishes, drip
coffee maker and microwave oven.
Camping: Greenbrier State Forest offers a
16-unit campground, suitable for tents, trailers,
and other recreational vehicles. Each site features
electric hookup, a picnic table and stone fireplace
with a grill. A central bathhouse provides guests
with hot showers and restroom facilities. Water is
available at a central location. Facilities are
fully accessible. Firewood and ice are available
from the attendant on duty.
