Texas Barbecue Beef Sandwiches (Slow Cooker)

Slow Cooker Time: 2 to 3 hrs

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 - cups ketchup

  • 1 - medium (1/2 cup) onion, chopped

  • 1/2 - cup firmly packed brown sugar

  • 1/4 - cup cider or white wine vinegar

  • 1/4 - cup butter

  • 2 - teaspoons chili powder

  • 1 - teaspoon finely chopped fresh garlic

  • 2 - pounds thinly sliced cooked deli roast beef, cut into strips

  • 12 - hamburger buns, split

  • 12 - slices (3/4-ounce) Deli American Cheese

Directions:

  1. In a 4-quart slow cooker, combine ketchup, onion, brown sugar, vinegar, butter, chili powder, and garlic. Stir in beef.

  2. Cover and cook on High heat setting for 2 to 3 hours or until flavors are blended.  Reduce heat to Low to keep warm. 

  3. To serve, spoon beef mixture evenly over bottom half of buns.  Top each with 1 slice cheese and place top half of bun over cheese.

Stovetop Directions:

  1. In 2-quart saucepan, stir together ketchup, onion, brown sugar, vinegar, butter, chili powder, and garlic.

  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until mixture comes to a boil.

  3. Reduce heat to low. Stir in beef; cook for 15 to 18 minutes or until heated through.
