Ingredients
  • 4 - slices bacon
  • 1 - cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 - cup green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1 - clove garlic, crushed
  • 1 - can (15 to 16 ounces) kidney beans, rinsed, drained
  • 1 - can (15 to 16 ounces) pinto beans, rinsed, drained
  • 3/4 - cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 - Tablespoon packed brown sugar

Directions

  1. In large skillet over low heat, add your bacon and cook until crisp, turning occasionally. 

  2. Remove from skillet and drain on paper towels. Remove all but 2 tablespoons drippings from skillet.

  3. Into skillet over medium heat, add the onion, bell pepper and garlic. 
  4. Now, cook and stir for 3 to 5 minutes or until tender. 
  5. Stir in the kidney and pinto beans, barbecue sauce and brown sugar. 
  6. Crumble bacon and return to skillet. 
  7. Finally, cover; cook for 5 minutes or until heated through. 
  8. You want to stir occasionally.

Picnicking & Tailgating

You want to make this recipe a day or two ahead.  Just heat and place in thermos or thermal containers and head to the picnic or tailgate site.  Just serve out of the thermal container or pour from the thermos.
